Catholic Studies Fellowship

Who are you called to be, and how will you prepare to fulfill your vocation?

The Catholic Studies Fellowship is an intellectual pilgrimage through the Catholic tradition. It begins with the encounter between faith and reason and concludes with an exploration of your vocation. Like all pilgrimages, it will involve some discomfort—you will leave the familiar and grapple with texts and sources previously unknown. The sites that we visit are Scripture and the works of luminaries like the theologians St. Augustine and St. John Henry Newman, philosophers Elizabeth Anscombe and Edith Stein, literary greats Flannery O’Connor and Gerard Manley Hopkins, and artists Bernini and Raphael. The point is not merely to see for curiosity’s sake, but to be transformed by the encounter. Their works are icons that will lead you to know God, the world, and yourself in greater depth than ever before.

The Itinerary:

Facilitated by a cohort of faculty from diverse disciplines, the fellowship is envisioned as a two-year sequence* consisting of four segments: Intro to Reality, God-Talk, The Shape of the Christian Life, and The Good Society. This year, we will cover the first two segments.

Fellows commit to completing 30 pages of reading per session drawn from Scripture and Catholic classics in advance of the session and to engaging in conversation in session. We will utilize a hybrid format, with some sessions in person, and others online.

This year’s undergraduate sessions will take place on Mondays from 6 - 7:30 pm on the following five dates: November 16, November 30,  January 25, Feb. 15, and March 15.

Graduate students and young professionals will meet on Thursdays from 6 - 7:30 pm on these dates: November 12, December 3, January 28, February 18, and March 18.

*If your graduation date would prevent you from completing both years of the fellowship, you are still encouraged to apply.*
